It’s that time again! For the month of August we will be bringing you our annual festival of American & American influenced Music, Food & Drink.
We are hosting local, UK and international bands and artists as well as dishing up some fine American inspired food specials and stocking imported Beers & Spirits to wash them down with. All gigs are free to attend.

August 1st 9pm
Speakeasy Bootleg Jazz Band
Lead by Trombone player Jeff Lewis Speakeasy’ play a fun mix of danceable classic Swing, Jive, Vintage Prohibition Jazz and are a guaranteed retro evening of easy going, social jazz.

August 2nd 9pm
Blind Monk Theory
This Quartet combing the music of great 20th Century composers Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman. The super cool Liverpool super group features Martin Smith on Trumpet, Bob Whittaker on Tenor Sax, Hugo Harrison on bass & Johnny Hunter on drums.

August 3rd 9pm
The Alchemy Collective
A relatively new Liverpool group of Musicians lead by Local Drummer Colin Lamont. They take what you would expect of 20th Century Jazz and inject it with innovation and enthusiasm to make it fresh and modern. Featuring regular guests and tonight joined by percussionist Stewart Hardcastle.

Martin Smith Quartet
An afternoon session featuring Standards, Traditional and Original compositions. This show features some of Liverpool’s best in a more casual family friendly afternoon session.

August 5th 9pm
Jubilee Stompers
This 5 piece was formed from mutual love of early jazz and it shows. Beginning with an exploration of the arrangements ofDuke Ellington they expanded to include many classic ensembles of the early 20th Century in their repertoire. Super tight as a group they make this well recognisable music feel fresh.

August 6th 9pm
Yellow Belly Stragglers
Three piece hokum played simple, cleanly and with passionate skill. Think 20th Century Swing Jazz and fizz-popping wax cylinders fused with a hillbilly backbeat and a hint of Woodie Guthrie.

August 7th 9pm
Clube Do Choro
A dynamic 6 piece with professional musicians pulled from a range of disciplines bring you vibrant Brazillion Choro. A late 19th Century genre that mixes Latin and African rhythms with Ameican and European Jazz Harmonies. Accessible, infectious, fast and fun. This band challenges you to sit still once they begin. You are guaranteed a good time this evening.

August 8th 9pm
Peter & the Wolves
Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rockabilly outfit joining us from Calgary, Canada on their way over to tour Europe. Rockabilly with an infectious R&B grove, heart full of twang ‘n’ soul and four-to-the-floor Rock ‘n’ Roll to make even the stiffest leg twitch we can’t wait to welcome these special festival guests.

Mar Le Chingus Quartet
Modern American Jazz epics from our residents. This Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne
Shorter, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and the like. Keep an eye out for special guests line ups.

Amanda Brown & the Gentle Thieves
A new outfit from Liverpool mainstay Amanda Brown. Jug band Jazz an Blues is to be expected featuring ‘Nine Lives’ Thomas on harmonica, Dave and Amanda on dual guitar and vocals. Come with ness the fledgling band take flight.

Loose Moose String Band
Bluegrass, Old Time, Western Swing classics and treatment of modern popular tracks. Cali regulars this band draws from a wealth of individual interests and musical experience to play the music they love in their own unique way.

August 12th 9pm
The Red Canary Dance Band
Jazz from the 20’s, 30’s and 40,s played by a drum, piano and vocal trio from Yorkshire. Occasional tap dancing, three part vocal harmonies and washboard make this group the perfect anecdote to a Monday evening. A bar staff recommend band!

August 13th 9pm
Jubilee Stompers
A five piece featuring Nick Branton, Parabhen Lad, Lucy Mercer, Martin Smith and Charlie McKeon this Band bring talent and enthusiasm to their presentation of early 20th Century ensemble jazz. Featuring the music of Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, Bix Beiderbecke, classic spirituals & prohibition era greats.

Cajun Session
Ever fancied giving some traditional Louisianan Cajun music a go? Bring something with strings or percussion to hit and join in with our open session organised by The Cottonmouth Cajun Dance Band. This is truly an unique experience you cannot find anywhere else in Merseyside. Everyone is welcome. Can’t play? Come dance!

Kevin Hassett’s Redux
Cheshire based Quartet playing accessible and entertaining modern Jazz rooted music for the thoughtful listener. Kevin on Vox, with Guitar, Bass & Drums. Eclectic, lively and original amalgam of freshly interpreted and arranged standard with blues, would and funk dressings.

Downtown Dixieland Band
What can we say about this band? A line up of Liverpool Dixieland legends that can hold an entire pub to attention on a busy Friday night. Experienced, expert performance of Trad Jazz with special guest musicians and vocalists this evening is what ‘Pub Music’ is all about.

Alex Gavaghan & the Boss Jockeys
60’s British Invasion, Beat Rock ‘n’ Roll with modern colloquial context. Shiny bright jukebox bops inspired by Merseybeat dressed in a Motown Scarf an Alex telling stories of everyday events and emotions. Expect jangly guitar, dancing bass, deliberate drumming and tongue in cheek vocals wrapped up in a neat bow.

Yellow Belly Stragglers & Dave Searson Solo
Dave Searson brings his original compositions, early blues covers and ragtime classics this evening to warm us up for a set of fun classic swing and hokum from his 3 piece of Cali regulars Yellow Belly.

The Manouchetones
Drawing from a history playing a mixture of jazz genres including standards and Latin in the style of The Guitar Trio the Manouchetones tones evoke the feel of smokey Parisienne Jazz Clubs. Swinging along to standards such a All of Me and Sweet Georgia Brown via Bossa Nova, Blues and Parisian Waltzes a tie tapping evening accessible to all.

The Country Miles
Western Swing, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rockabilly are the order of the night. Hot swinging classic tunes lead by Rusty on Guitar and Vox the trio bring Old School Country to the Cali tonight.

Nick Ellis
Drawing influences from right across the board of the school of songwriting. Knowledge and skill passed to and fro between American and British counterparts, Nicks song writing is unique but grounded in experience and appreciation of other gone before. Come listen to tales told about people near and far by a hard working Liverpool traditional.

Hoot & Holler
Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo and dual vocals from this duo from Asheville, North Carolina. This pair are songwriters dedicated to honing their craft drawing from the stylistic nuances of Cajun and traditional Appalachian Folk, with Old Time and Americana mixed in. This is one not to be missed.

Donkey Hokey
Self described as “Tex Mex” influences are drawn from Irish & English Trad Folk,American Bluegrass, Blues, Jazz, Calypso & the O’Odham fiddle music of Arizona. Their academic interest in the source of their influence has allowed them to deftly blend these styles into clever arrangements. Quirky, rhythmic and interesting interpretation lead to engaging, enthusiastic performance.

Ron Farrell leads this group on Cajun Accordion and a devoted interest and careful study of Cajun Dance music. Close your eyes and it’s a hot, humid, night on the Bayou and you’re up I the arms of your love dancing a two step. A truly unique experience in Liverpool.

Come join us to celebrate the closing night of our Americana Festival 2019 with a good old shakedown and classic Cali knees up.
